Covet

Growing up in an RCC household, I was taught that it's unhealthy to covet what others have. Be it the eighth and tenth commandments, as well as any other thing that evokes the feeling of jealousy. However, as I've experienced life's ups and downs, I've come to realise that there's something even more unhealthy and destructive that can impact our future.

To yearn for what we used to have - whether it's money, health, or relationships. This painting was created during a period when I spent hours poring over photos and items from my past, when I had these things that I lacked at the moment.

I was struck by the power of this desire and how much living in the past can hinder our future development. The vibrant background colours represent the desire to regain what was lost, while the dark blue and black stripes symbolise the unhealthy and dark side of that craving.
